Fruit are generally high in water

Fruits generally contains lots of water although the water they provide is usually not counted when fluid intake is calculated. Fruits primarily consist of water, just as approximately 70% of your body is water. Have you experienced how refreshing it is to eat a watermelon on a hot summer day?

When eaten with the skin, fruits offer fiber

Fibers is important in maintaining health and preventing disease. They are credited with lowering cholesterol levels and improving glucose control in diabetics. Fiber also helps in preventing obesity, cardiovascular disease, and serves as a protection against colon and breast cancers. If you need to relieve or prevent constipation, ensure that you have a high intake of fiber.

Most fruits are naturally fat free

With the exception of avocado, coconut and olives, fruits are naturally fat free. We can all agree that cholesterol and saturated fats harm our bodies and lead to heart disease and obesity. Fruits contain none of these, thus making it a perfect source of food.

Fruit stimulates the memory

Unlike processed sugars, which limit our thinking capability by clogging our minds, fruits contain natural sugars which allows us to use our brain more effectively.  It has been realized that those who consume more fruit has a greater ability to recall information faster and more easily. Fruits can be very valuable to you if you are a student. Ensure that you take a fruit with you next time you leave for school.

Fruit is the most natural food

Unlike starchy foods or vegetables, which generally need preparation, fruits can be picked from the tree and eaten immediately. If hungry and in need of a quick snack, eat a fruit and enjoy the benefits.

Fruits are part of a healthy diet

Fruits are one of the five food groups needed to make a healthy diet. It is recommended that we include a variety of fruit in our diet to ensure that we consume valuable amounts of vitamins and nutrients.

Fruits help protect you from chronic diseases.

Fruits come in different colors

Have you ever seen any other food come in so many amazing colors?

Fruits taste delicious and children love them

Fruits are the only natural food that children enjoy eating. They also love junk food, but it is not natural and is detrimental to their health. Ensure that your child maintains good health by ensuring that a variety of fresh fruits are always available.

When should fruit be eaten?

Before fruit is ripe, it is in a starchy state and while in this condition, it provides you very little food value and is hard to digest. But as the fruit ripens, it turns into grape sugar especially if allowed to ripen in the air and sun and is easily digestible. It is also better to cook fruits that were picked before they were allowed to ripen, than it is to eat them raw. Do you know that most of the imported fruits you buy were picked before they were allowed to ripen and as results do not possess as much nutritional value as those which were allowed to ripen on the tree? The banana is the only fruit that maintains the same nutritional value when picked green and allowed to ripen.

Do not eat half ripe bananas

Don’t you feel sick when you eat bananas? Do you eat bananas, which have particles of green over the skin? Too often we eat bananas too green while they are in a starchy state. When the banana is eaten it this state, it leaves a starchy state in your mouth and may make you feel healthy bananassick because it is less digestible. When digested in this state, the banana forms gas, decomposes and cause trouble. Next time you buy bananas from the store, examine it carefully to ensure that it is fully ripe and healthy for digestion.

When eaten fully ripe bananas are easily digested and provide a good source of potassium, folic acid, vitamin A and B6.
